Many owners of the Java Edition of Minecraft can currently unlock the version for Windows 10 and Xbox of Minecraft for free. Developer Mojang recently announced via Twitter that all Java Edition owners who purchased the game before October 19, 2018 can obtain a free license for Windows 10 and Xbox. According to Mojang, all they need to do is log in to their account.

Attention! The offer is limited. It's not clear how many licenses will be given away in total. Nevertheless you should hurry up!

How does it work?

  1. You visit the page www.mojang.com.
  2. Log in via the "Account" button in the upper right corner.
  3. Now go to Minecraft in the Windows/Xbox Store. There you should be able to activate it for free.
  4. If it doesn't already appear free of charge as in point 3, go to your profile on the Mojang page and click on the "Redeem" button on the right under "Minecraft: Bedrock Edition for Windows 10".
  5. It should now simply say "Open". Now your Windows/Xbox version is activated.

Have fun!
